“Holle contrasts the disposability of American consumer goods with the enduring dignity and beauty of people and animals. He treats personally known and unknown subjects with equal consideration, he sheds a somewhat positive light on the global village phenomenon — the media-generated illusion of knowing millions of strangers around the world.”
~ Janet Tyson“Holle’s vision is summed up in one of his several pieces that take the form of a child’s set of alphabet blocks in which each letter is illustrated by an animal. One stack of the blocks forms a tall, thin pyramid on the wall and spells out the word “wonderful.” Multiple W’s begin the spelling, and the slight stutter they cause in the viewer’s reading of the piece captures the kind of embarrassment one might feel at admitting the truth that lies at the heart of what looks like a piece of cornball sentiment. Like all the best of Mr. Holle’s work, this piece is both ingratiating and moving.”

“…skillful figure painter who goes to great pains to make sure that his skill does not become slick or facile. In each case, the contrast between his meticulous technique and the painting surface causes a unique kind of physical poetry to pervade his imagery.”
~ James Sanchez
“Holle comes off as a boy who refuses to clean up his room. He seems to work overtime combing the junkyards for “stuff,” which he assembles into frequently outlandish installations. Mr. Holle has made a name for himself locally painting small realistic studies on found objects but he resists such easy pigeonholing.”
